T.A.B.E. ENTRANCE TEST
FOR CLASSROOM AND HOME-STUDY
APPLICANTS WHO DON'T HAVE A COLLEGE,
HIGH SCHOOL OR G.E.D. DIPLOMA
APPLICANTS WHO DON'T HAVE A COLLEGE,
HIGH SCHOOL OR G.E.D. DIPLOMA
The T.A.B.E. Test (Test of Adult Basic Education) is a short, 8th-9th grade level, basic skills test given to applicants who want to train with a New Jersey State Approved Vocational School like the Academy, but, don't have the College, High School, or G.E.D. diploma required for entrance. It tests your basic math and basic reading comprehension skills.
The reading comprehension section of the test is concerned with your understanding of two short articles, an application form, two short excerpts from a book and a help wanted ad. The math section tests your addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions and decimal problem solving skills.
The Academy supplies applicants with a basic math study guide, to help them prepare for the test. The study guide gives examples of the basic math on the test and teaches the student how to solve the problems.
Applicants who live close to the Academy's Woodbridge, NJ location, can come to the school to receive a study guide and to schedule a day and time to take the test. For those applicants too far to travel to the Academy, a study guide can be sent to you. Arrangements can be made to take the test in your area. In that case, it would be the applicant's responsibility to find a person to administer the T.A.B.E. test (a testing proctor) for them. Examples of acceptable testing proctors would be: a school teacher or coach, school principal, priest, rabbi, police detective, social worker, city official, etc.
